This Breitling watch, with a scratch-resistant sapphire dial window, is water immune to 984 feet. The Breitling Story Louis Breitling founded his watch company in 1884 in St Imier, Switzerland with the specific aim to invent chronographs and counters for scientific and industrial applications. In the early 19th century, Breitling expanded into creating high-quality timing instruments for automobiles and airplanes, beginning a long history of creating timing instruments for the aviation industry. In 1952, the Navitimer was launched, a wrist watch equipped with a so called "navigation computer" that permitted pilots to calculate flight plans. In 1962, the 24-hour Cosmonaute chronograph was released, and this watch was worn by Scott Carpenter when he flew America's second ever manned orbital flight in the Aurora 7. Continuing to innovate for professional flyers, in the mid-1990s Breitling introduced the Emergency, which features a built-in microtransmitter that broadcasts on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency. This is used as a backup to airborne beacons, and it is signal may be picked up within a range of up to 90 nautical miles. The Emergency has been put to the test on various occasions, most famously in rescuing two British pilots who crashed their helicopter in Antarctica. Breitling has likewise been at the forefront in advancing the mechanics of the chronograph timepiece. In 1923, it was the primary watch manufacturer to introduce an independent push piece for the chronograph, enabling the commence and return-to-zero function (previously performed by the winding-crown). Then in 1934, Breitling added a second push piece to the chronograph enabling either cumulative or incremental time recording. |

UNAUTHENTIC BREITLING CHRONOMAT EVOLUTION EXPERIENCE By A. Shuster I purchased a brand new Breitling Chronomat Evolution directly from Amazon.com (NOT a reseller - Directly from Amazon.com). I did have my suspicions regarding purchasing a Breitling from Amazon.com since they are Not and Authorized Breitling Dealer, nonetheless I figured that being Amazon.com and having a 100% guarantee on the authenticity of the watch I ought to not have any troubles and would save a couple to a few hundred dollars off the AD price.
The watch came and it was gorgeous - except it did not have the regular protective plastic around the watch itself and the bracelet which is how I have seen these watches come in at the AD stores. So I called Amazon.com to inquire when it comes to this and was told that since each watch is exhaustively inspected by certified watch professionals, they will have to have taken the protective plastic off while inspecting the watch. This made no sense to me nevertheless I trusted Amazon.com and merely carried on still admiring my watch.
The next morning I noticed that my watch stopped working. I wound it up and wore it on my wrist to undertake and activate the self winding motion - and nothing. I decisive to check and see if the Chronomat still worked and when I went to unscrew the protective pusher pin to activate the Chronomat, it exclusively came off.
Panicked - expecting that since Breitling watches go through such scrutiny initial by Breitling and then as I was explained by Amazon.com cust service, I was sure that this watch would work for years without any difficulties - I contacted client service.
Having reached what sounded like an Indian call center, I was told how sorry they were a lot of times and that they will have to send an email to the Jewelry Department AND THAT I SHOULD WHAIT FOR 2-3 Business Days to receive a response. I asked if I could contact the Jewelry Dept. myself and was told - sorry no.
Three business days later I had no response so I called again. Having spoken to another Indian-sounding rep, I was told the precise same thing - we are so sorry for your trouble and that no-one contacted you from the Jewelry Dept. - the rep said that he will personally make sure that someone gets back with me in another 2-3 business days. At this point I was so ticked off words could not explain. Here I had a $4K+ watch and it stopped working within 24 hours after being delivered to me.
Waiting on a reply from the Jewelry Dept., I noticed that I was contacted by the Amazon.com Concierge Dept. prompting me by way of email to contact them if I had any questions and thanking me for my purchase. I imagine that due to the big monetary sum applied to buy the watch was the reason why an individual from the Concierge Dept. was assigned to me - and thank Goodness!
I was capable to speak to a domestic (American employee) who explained to me that there were just 3 people in the Amazon Concierge Dept. assigned to sure clients. The person assigned to me was named James. He explained that I had two selections - to send the watch back or to send it to Amazon.com's Authorized Jeweler - Stanford Jewelers for repairs.
Since I in truth wanted to keep the watch, I contacted Stanford Jewelers and shipped the watch over to them (insured and on my own dime) asking Mr. Stanford himself (who was very kind and helpful over the phone) to try and determine what was faulty with the watch ASAP since if it was something severe I would still be within my 30 - day return timeframe.
Two days later (after Mr. Stanford had received the watch he contacted me on the same day) I received a call from Mr. Stanford. He told me that he had bad news and that the watch was UNAUTHENTIC. He stated that everything from the Breitling Pilot Bracelet to the mechanism itself was a good Asian copy. Mind you that Stanford Jewelers are an Authorized AMAZON.COM Jeweler who has been in business for over 60 years so they recognise what they are talking about.
Mr. Stanford wrote up an invoice for me which stated "Watch determined to be unauthentic - not covered by warranty - will not be repaired."
When I contacted the Concierge (James) he was very skeptical stating that Amazon.com does not deal with Fake or Unauthentic watches, etc. This of course made me very angry as I had spoken with Stanford Jewelers twice and both times they confirmed that all this watch necessitated was a good look by a in the right manner trained eye to determine that it is a Fake.
For the next 2 wks with the help of James I was capable to make the return and get back a Gift Certificate which I purchased for $2,500 in order to make the payment on the watch. WHY DID I HAVE TO PURCHASE THE GIFT CERTIFICATE YOU MAY ASK? Because this watch was entitled for Free Financing from Amazon.com IF you applied for their Amazon.com store card, nonetheless with a very good credit score I was permitted a remainder not even close to the buy price and was told by Cust Service (offshore center) that All I had to do is buy a Gift Certificate and use it along with my new Amazon.com Store Card to make the buy and that the remainder from the Store Card would stay interest free for the set amount of time of time as described. WHY NOT USE ANOTHER CARD ALONG WITH THE AMAZON.com STORE CARD YOU MAY ASK? - Because IT IS NOT ALLOWED...LOL - Funny because it's so sad and true. YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND EASILY FIND COMPLAINTS of people with fantastic credit scores receiving $500-$1,500 on their Amazon.com Store Card balances and when they call into cust service to request a remainder increase, they are told the same thing as I was - Sorry, we can not issue Any remainder increments for the next 6 months - but if you want to make the buy now, YOU CAN BUY OUR GIFT CERTIFICATE. I only uncovered this After the Fact - will have to have done more research.
I ought to have also done more exploration on the Gift Certificate which turned out to be UNREFUNDABLE! NOTHING was cited by Cust Serv in fact when I asked - what if I have to make a return, will I be stuck with a $2,500 Gift Certificate for Amazon.com? I was told specifically - no, for the duration of the return you would merely indicate that you would like to apply the Gift Card remainder to one of the cards on your account with Amazon.com.
HOW DID I GET THE GIFT CARD REFUNDED BACK TO THE CARD I USED TO PURCHASE IT? With the support of Amazon.com Concierge. Which by the way I would never have any contact with unless my buy was as pricey as it was (Over $4K). James was capable to after a few days get me the remainder back.
What is the moral of my story? You decide! I ended up going to a Breitling AD after this horribly stressful experience and only paying $100 more than what I remunerated here (after calling all AD's in my area and asking for deals they had underneath retail, then after coming upon the lowest price (there was a big divergence amongst the AD's), I called each of the other higher priced AD's back and bargained until I received another lower price and then I called again until I found the lowest price for the watch I wanted). BTW: Once I had the real thing on my wrist I could tell the dissimilar right away. From the screws in the bracelet to the date font, to the way the watch sounded when it was being wound up, all was totally dissimilar and the pushpins and crown felt much more sturdy and solid where the watch I received from Amazon.com felt much flimsier.
AFTER ALL OF THIS, I received an email from Amazon.com (signed merely by William - no last name - no contact email - no phone #) stating that for my difficultnesses (which they call sending me a Fake 4-thousand dollar watch (almost 6K retail) - THANK GOODNESS THAT IT ACTUALLY BROKE BEFORE I COULD PROUDLY WEAR IT FOR YEARS and THEN DETERMINE DURING MAINTENANCE OR AN OVERHAUL THAT IT WAS A FAKE!)) I would be receiving a complementary Amazon.com Gift Certificate for $250 to support keep me as an Amazon.com client and that I would receive it no later than March 20h.
Here I am and it's April 3rd and NO Complimentary Gift Certificate. So what did I do now that the Concierge Dept. is off the case after having been very helpful? I called cust service and got the offshore center again. And what did they tell me? That they will need to send an email to the Gift Card Dept. and that I would be receiving a reply in 2 - 3 business days. I was furious and asked to speak to their manager who assured me some times that he would Personally make sure that someone contacts me within 2 - 3 business days. I have an email from him directly relaying this info as well.
Business day 3 was yesterday and still no response!
I will not let this go and will proceed to call Amazon.com until I get answers on this COMPLEMENTARY GIFT (which I feel I is worthy of giving careful consideration to the circumstances). I only feel sad for those who go through the same thing and don't have the Concierge Dept. to help.
I hope that this review is read by and helps a great deal of of you make your purchasing decision whether it is an costly Breitling watch or something else.
