star50 tpng swiss army backpackBG got this one right !!

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3L9E4CTFGTL4T This is the Best of the BG offerings. Most merchants who sells goods at retail trade it for 30 bucks which is a bit much but when I found it on sale for 19 bucks my cat like reflexes took over. This knife is no toy. Its very sturdy with no blade play and has a good solid feel... I was enjoyably amazed with how tuff this thing realy is. It will make a outstanding back up to your fixed blade survival selection. The handle is fantastic and very grippy even when wet. The rubberized grip absorbs affect and sticks to your hand. It fits VERY nicely in the hand and feels like an extension of it. With a dual thumb stud it opens easily, locks into place with a convinced "SNAP" of the lock back and securely closes for safety. You will not feel "under knifed" with this thing.

The thick but not too heavy high carbon steel blade is half serrated and comes very sharp. Love Gerbers serrations... great for cutting rope, cordage and strapping. Lots of so called knife experts reject Gerber's steel but I find it tough, authenti and easy to sharpen. The serrations cut paper better than the straight edge portion... they are risk sharp!

I like the orange accents on this type of knife... makes it requiring little effort to find in a hurry which makes sense since that's what it's for. The nylon sheath is excellent. Don't forget to melt any frayed ends with your lighter... this will support it to last longer and look great. Even comes with survival instructions that seem to be printed on moisture immune paper. A fine knife... good occupation Bear and Gerber.

star40 tpng swiss army backpackGood so far...
By Jcarey
Saw they dropped the price on this, so i had to pull the trigger and get it.

shipped very fast, almost scary fast.

First let me explain why i picked this knife over the other Bear/Gerber knifes.
-The two "scout" foldable knifes were much to little for what i was looking for, i wanted a solid 3 1/2+ inch blade. i already have a great deal of little blade and wanted one with more lenght, so those will not do.
-Second, i did not get the 'ultimate knife' with all the bells and whistles because i already have a firestick, sharpening stone, whistle, etc. so why remunerate more for what i have? second, i think the 'ulimate' blade is outstanding for people outdoors all the time as much as possible with a straight blade, but if your a traveller and aren't 'in the wild' as much, id rather have a closeable knife i may carry on my belt.

That said, here is my review of the actual blade (on basi look/use)...

-Knife feels very solid in-hand. good weight to it, not to heavy, not to light, nonetheless i would say it is somewhat knife-side heavy over the handle(but i like that feel).
-Grip/handle is great, 'grippy' like bear says, and the handle is very comfy in my more prominent hands. thing that could make it better is if it was a touch wider.
-Blade- thick, rugged. love gerbers 'drop-points'. i cannot tell if this blade is pre-sharpend or not? it didn't cut well through assorted layers of packing tape, but sliced through paper and a heap of light sticks easily, so i think it could be sharpend a bit for best results.
-Sheath it is very strudy, love the belt straps (to sit verticle or horizontal). Knife fits perfectly snug inside. except, if you put the 'survival guide' inside it is little pocket, with the knife, then the knife is exceedingly snug, good because you recognise there is no way the knife may slip out, but then it takes a bit more strength to get it out. i do not mind too much. to each his own.

I will update review if any negative distinct elements arise, and after i test it out more heavily.
overall, outstanding in my sentiment at the price i got it at. ($26)

star50 tpng swiss army backpackGOOD KNIFE
By GerberMan
I was hesitant to give this knife 5 stars because it's difficult to say something is perfect. But this knife deserves it for the price and utility/durability it presents. this comparatively cheap knife is a true survival knife. Its very sturdy with no blade play and has a good weight to it. All this makes it very trustful. The handle is fantastic. Rubberized grip to absorb impact, a lot of pieces of plastic but not a big deal, a fine hilt and fits VERY nicely in the hand not similar to the BG scout knife. With a dual thumb stud it opens easily, locks into place very well and has a little back lock to close it swiftly. The thick but not too heavy high carbon steel blade is half serrated and comes somewhat sharp but with a good deal of touching up and the strength that may be out behind it...it doesn't matter. overall outstanding knife good occupation BG and gerber.
