About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus begun what would become the global brand name Victorinox, a combining of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox gives rise to watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The introductory product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women buying goods in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Quinticential pocket knife-Fantastic! By Little Joey I have owned respective incarnations of Victorinox Swiss Army knives for closely 3 decades. I think I am on my fourth now. Two lost and one given away. It lives in the pocket of my jeans each single day. They alter the model names and features around from year to year. The Explorer is my current favored and is fundamentally THE knife I have owned for all these years. One of the major qualifying constituents for me is the Phillips Head screwdriver, which I use regularly. Many of victorinox's models have this screwdriver coming out of the handle perpandicular to the handle's length. Which seems utterly ridiculous. It's very awkard to use efficaciously in that configuration. Much better when it comes straight off the end of the handle, as a typical screwdriver does.
So that's what I look for first. The huge knife blades, little knife blade is great. The scissors are great...more than a gimmick. I use them frequently. (Be careful not to overbend the spring when "adjusting"...although you may get replacements. I substituted mine in Rome various years ago at a tiny knife shop) I use the magnifying glass as well...for a whole bunch of stuff. And more so now that my eyes are starting to go! Essentially, everything on here has a intent and is utile in my each day life, with the exception perhaps, of the fence-wire-puller thingy. It is a reasonable size and weight. No extra wood camping saw or chainsaw or anything else that's only going to get use once a year. Manufacturing quality and finish on these are great. As they say, "Don't be befooled by imitations". Perfect knife: Great features, not one thing extraneous, good weight, outstanding quality, and great price. Don't lose it and you'll have it for the rest of your life. 4 of 4 humans found the following review helpful.
A good value if purchased as a combo By Eric H. Lee The price for this one is finelooking good if you buy it with another knife to get free shipping. Can't say much regarding the Explorer - it is a nice little knife. The shield case looks metal, but is cheap plastic. I could have done without it. 2 of 2 persons found the following review helpful.
explorer swiss army knife By halvah The knife arrived with a scratched up plastic handle, which makes it look like a second hand product. It is likely that the scratches on the red plastic handle comes from the case in which the knife is loosely packed. The case is an unnecessary accoutrement which needlessly adds to the cost and which is likely never to be used. But it is the loosely packed knife which bangs versus the case, probably for the duration of transit, which is what causes the scratches. See all 29 client reviews... |
