The Baume & Mercier Story

Baume & Mercier has a rich history in storied tradition of Swiss watchmaking, now over 170 years. In 1830, brothers Louis Victor and Pierre-Joseph-Celestin Baume conventional the Baume Freres Watch firm in the Swiss Jura region--the heart of the Swiss watch industry. As business flourished in Europe a grandson of the founder, William Baume met Paul Mercier, a great lover of the arts and in 1918 they formulated a business partnership. The contrast of the rigorous, precise Baume with the artistic, free thinking Mercier fused form and function to give rise to the traditions of perfection, quality, and lavishness that still subsist today.

In 1964, Baume & Mercier registered the Greek letter PHI as it is brand logo, and it proceeds to be present on all Baume & Mercier designs. A symbol of the golden proportionality and Leonard de Vinci's theory of proportion, it represents aesthetic elegance based on "divine proportions" that stay the brand's cardinal values.

the designers at Baume & Mercier utilize the goldmine of the company's over 175 years of watch-making history--from the oval of a crown to the graphics of a dial--to create the aesthetic contours of new timepieces. Inspired by a rectangular pink gold watch introduced by Baume & Mercier in 1960, the signature Hampton line of watches was produced as a blend of watchmaking tradition and contemporary design. And the company still lives by the original slogan of the Baume brothers when they started Baume Freres: "Accept only perfection, only invent watches of the most eminent quality."

star50 tpng swiss watches rankingExcellent, Beautiful Timepiece by Quality Manufacturer
By B. Hatch
Baume et Merciet (pronounced bomb-eh me-air-cyah) is a classic timepiece, ranked highly by GQ as a classic timepiece and highly commended as fundamentally the "bottom" of the top tier of the elite manufacturers. Amazon has fantastic prices on it, and altho you forgo the primary 12 month makers warranty, with Amazon it is authentic and they stand behind it with their own 2 year warranty, and it's well worth it to buy it here, in my opinion.

This peculiar model arrived in finelooking packaging with a finelooking box and pillow, with three constituents to the box. Very nice.

The clasp is unquestionably more or less more strange than a lot of other Breitling or other high-end watch straps, but easy to adjust and use. It took me a minute to figure it out, but when I did, it was easy to use... it looks like your typical "belt buckle" style on the outside, but has folded metal mechanisms inside that prevent the watch from falling off your wrist, for example, when attempting to buckle it each morning.

It sits comfortably on a wrist, and altho not a little face equated to something like a Phillipe (few high end watches have little faces anymore), doesn't appear bulky. As another reviewer noted, it sits comparatively flat versus the skin, so doesn't interfere with a dress shirt, for example.

The black leather band gives is a formal look that would concede this to be used even to a tuxedo level without any heartburn, yet the stainless steel case and the clean white face give it a innovative look. Very nice blend of a clean progressed watch with a very established markings - they rely to a great extent on what has worked and looked timeless for them over the last 100 years. I recognise that sounds funny, but this watch could comfortably be worn by a 75 year old man who wears suit pants and dress shirts daily, and could likewise look good on a 30 year old office dweller. I wouldn't commend this watch for someone expecting to wear it with a T-shirt and shorts, however, or in a physical occupation - a steel band and more sportier face would look better. You could get away with a nice t-shirt and Jeans however, due to it is size, face, and stainless steel case.

Anyway, The case is nicely polished, the face is crisp and clean, but note that what appears on the internet as comparatively pure red for the numbers and dials is more like a dried blood red, or even more earthy as closer to brown. Still very sharp, but if you like bold red in the styling, you may be dissapointed. I love red, and if it was even a shade more brown, I might have returned, but it was still in a nice reddish-brown tint that worked well versus the other black markings.

The crown at rest is NOT screw-down, but when turned from a stationary resting position clockwise, winds the watch. Pull it out one spot, and it adjusts the every hour mechanism... you will feel a slight resistance, then it will "hop" forward one hour, then no resistence, slight resistance, hop, repeat. Easy to set. The hour/minute/date is the furthermost out.

Anyway, I got this watch for my 60 year old, executive father as his original nice, automatic watch, and he seems to genuinely like it. I did a ton of exploration on brands, styles, etc., and I'm very happy with the buy and his reaction when I gave it to him. I think this is a good watch for a 35-70 year old man who doesn't want a "flashy name brand" watch that is a statement to everyone, but will be grateful for a well-made Geneva fabricated timepiece that may conceivably pass generations, and will be well recognized and valued by those that know watches. I also think this is a outstanding office watch for a college graduate on up to a wharton mba.

Happy with buying this comparatively pricey watch on Amazon, and commend it highly.

star50 tpng swiss watches rankingBeautiful, classy, high-end watch
By Thomas H.
This watch is an automatic, dual-time watch, from Baume & Mercier, one of the best and most well-known Swiss watchmakers.

I specially like the way the dual time is indicated: an extra arm on the same motion will point to the second time zone, which fends off having a distinguished motion and dial and keeps the watch very classy and not crowded at all. Very refined and tasteful and stylish. It is likewise very light. Thickness is when it comes to 1/3", which is rather little for an automatic watch.

It has the huge vantage of not being a quartz watch, which makes it more reliable. In fact a sign of that is that you may see the seconds arm continuously rotate rather of the regular intervals made by quartz watches. Finally, best of all is the beauteous sound of the swiss movement, which I would have given an extra star for!

Final note, don't plan on buying this watch anyplace other than on Amazon.com, since it is retail price in jewelers from standard malls is approx $1800. I got mine for less than $1300 on Amazon!

star50 tpng swiss watches rankingBaume & Mercier Classima from Amazon.com
By Chet
I not long ago purchased the Classima model #8462 from Amazon.com and wanted to let every one know that the dealing was perfect.

This is the introductory time that I have purchased an pricey watch online ($1,500) sight unseen, and had some anxieties regarding doing so. However, with the Amazon.com reputation behind it, I felt it was worth a try, taking into account the significant savings that could be realized in obtaining a authenti Baume & Mercier.

The watch came with all of the manufacturer's primary materials - activity of formally presenting something case, manual, etc. It is indispensable for folks to know that the makers warranty is not applicable in such a dealing because of the online syndication channel. However Amazon.com steps in and provides a full warranty, so this is not genuinely a problem. If it is a authenti watch by a quality Swiss manufacturer, there ought to never be any warranty issue -- the watch will work out of the box.

It doesn't make sense to buy a watch any other way!!
