This book begs to be read... By A. Turner This book tells a horrific tale with such bold, unflinching detail that, knowing it was based on very real events occurring in Manchuria, China for the duration of the Second World War, I feel that the author will have to have had great passion and courage to exploration and invent a story around this event. It is a story that needs telling. Ironically, the most unforgettable characters for me were Asian - the empathetic "Pu Yi", the heroic and charismatic "Han" and the evil and dispicable "General Tanaka". Also cherished was the Swedish diplomat "Graumman" - each action tale needs a good deal of light-hearted adventure as well. There is much darkness in this story but don't let that stop you from reading it as the light does in truth come. I am left marveling with regards to the psyche of the Japonese people today in a way that I don't with the Germans. 1 of 1 humans found the following review helpful.
Compelling Historical Fiction.. By C. Reed Night Train from Manchuria is a well crafted story of physical and psychological drama driven by the uttermost and oftentimes cruel humane conduct brought out in times of war. The plot is well paced and propelled by interesting, complex characters described in bright detail, drawing the reader into the story. Conquering unfathomed loss, overcoming adversity and finding love are all percentage of Night Train. The fact that it is based on historical events makes it all the more chilling and interesting - the history of biological weapons development at Harbin is arousing and attention holding in and of itself. Exciting, highly entertaining, this book is a plus in all categories. 1 of 1 persons found the following review helpful.
A tale of murder and triumph..... By L.Fredenrich What an astounding story, it was intriguing and suspenseful. In the beginning I was captured with the unbelievable descriptions of war crimes, persons and places. I had a real connection with each of the characters. It's a very visual story of violence, love and compassion. In the end I was left wanting for more. What a outstanding book! See all 5 client reviews... |
