About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus begun what would become the global brand name Victorinox, a combining of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox formulates watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The primary product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women buying goods in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

The best of the breed By Brian Reaves Of all the SAK's out there, the Deluxe Tinker is my favorite. It's little sufficient to comfortably stay in your pocket (instead of those side pouches a lot of of the larger models require), and each single tool in the collection is useable. While I own eight dissimilar Swiss Army Knives, this is the one I perpetually grab when it's time to go. The only problem I had with it is the scissors. The little metal piece that pushes the blades isolated got twisted once when I let someone borrow my knife (never again) and I could never get it to work right after that. I not long ago purchased my second to let my initial retire after various long years of rugged use. If not for the scissors getting messed up, I'd still be using it today. After years of every day use, it's still good. The blades have had to be sharpened and there are a few chips out of the red cover, but I have no complaints with the quality. It holds up to hard usage.
If you're looking for a knife that is lasting and useful, Swiss Army is the way to go. Any of their knives are good. 21 of 21 humans found the following review helpful.
nice tool, good workmanship, but a little bulky By Perry W. Beabout I purchased this knife to replace the one I lost when I left in rental car. The model I had before was the Tinker's little brother (the Swiss Army Climber II. I loved that knife and employed it daily. I thought it would be hand to have the pliers included with the Tinker model. They are handy, but frankly I wished I had replace the Climber with a Climber. The Tinker is a very nice knife, but it's bulky and I genuinely don't like to carry it in my pocket. If you don't mind the bulk, it's good buy. However it that is an issue, you may want to consider another model such as the Climber. Hope that helps. 18 of 19 persons found the following review helpful.
Indispensable tool, magnificent gift By torrid_wind™ I not so long ago ordered the Deluxe Tinker. This knife will be a substitute for the Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker and Classic Knife Combo I purchased 32 years ago! Even if you're not into camping, Swiss Army knives are important for daily use. I have carried mine with me everyplace (except airports). The knife has come in handy more times that I could perhaps recall. Before cell phones were introduced, my Swiss Army knife helped me to make simple car repairs on the road (and I'm NO mechanic, trust me). I employed it from everything from removing splinters to stripping wires. It's outstanding to have one of these yourself. However, they make EXCELLENT GIFTS! (How a lot of gifts have you received that you've applied for 32 years and consider indispensable?). Don't leave home without it! See all 66 client reviews... |
