This sturdy, silky-coated canine originated as a farm dog in Switzerland, where it remains very common. This book is a brand-new title in Barron's spacious line of Complete Pet Owner's Manuals. They advise current and soon-to-be pet owners on the care of dogs and cats of nearly all recognized breeds, as well as on birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, little mammals, and even exotic creatures like tarantulas and sugar gliders. excellent for Berner owners and puppy buyers

This is an affordable, readable book that has a great deal of pictures to illustrate the author's points. Information is provided to aid you determine whether a Bernese Mountain Dog is suitable for your lifestyle. If you already live with a Berner, the book provides helpful hints in regards to diet, exercise, and health care. I give this a Thumbs Up and I recognise -- I have lived and loved Berners for twenty years.

Great Book

This book is outstanding for the introductory time owner of a Berner. It has a large total of information. It also includes a heap of great references.

The dog that yodels...not

Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals are very basic, which numerous reviewers find annoying. I don't, but unluckily the "manuals" (really booklets) are likewise very uneven. "Bernese Mountain Dogs" incorporate a lot of magnificent photos of this Swiss breed, which looks like you suppose a dog to look like (something of a canine Platonic form?). The text, however, is boring, mixing up and seriously edited. It also holds weird but unacknowledged jokes. At one point, the author claims that BMD's may yodel! Come again? Perhaps they also make splendid fondue or stay neutral in world wars? Sorry, only two stars for this one, even though the antecedently cited pictures is worthy of four or five.
